Working with Bario-Neal was a complete pleasure.  Before her death, my grandmother passed down to me a pendant she had had made many years ago with the diamonds from her mother’s wedding ring.  For several years I had wanted to turn these diamonds into a ring for myself, but because they held such emotional significance for me I wanted to be very careful about to whom I entrusted them.  They are also very tiny diamonds and I was concerned that this would make them difficult to work with.  Further, I wanted something contemporary and elegant, not just a plain diamond ring identical to the other designs out there.  After hearing about Bario-Neal from a friend and perusing the beautiful jewelry on their website, I tentatively e-mailed them about making the ring.  They were instantly receptive, warm, communicative, and just about everything else I could want from a company to complete this project.  They were able to connect my fuzzy ideas and aesthetic into a concrete design that turned out to be exactly what I wanted—and all of this through e-mail!  They were also wonderful about keeping in close contact and maintaining that openness throughout the project.  I have only good things to say about Bario-Neal; from their responsible business practices to their work ethic, creativity, and “realness,” they have a very special company.

I contacted the delightful Page Neal and thus began our collaboration. I wanted a pearl since diving brought Laura and I together, and I wanted it to be a saltwater pearl, so Page found me an ethically harvested Japanese Saltwater pearl:) The diamond is a heirloom diamond that has been in my family for a while, that my mom gave me some time ago for me to do what I wanted with - and I wanted to give it to Laura:) So combine the pearl and the diamond with some platinum, and you get a beautiful custom ring by Bario-Neal.

I cannot recommend Bario-Neal highly enough. The company consists of two women, Page Neal (who made our rings) and Anna Bario, who are based in Philadelphia and really seem to be industry-leaders in terms of ethical and sustainable jewelery-making practices. Since our wedding, two sets of my friends who were very impressed with our rings have also hired Anna and Page for their wedding bands. Our wedding bands were incredibly complicated. We wanted custom rings made out of a stone we had found on the road in Spain that we couldn't identify but was important to us. The stone turned out to be an industrial bi-product that was extremely hard and difficult to work with. After numerous attempts and working on the project for many weeks, Page came up with a design that could incorporate the stone. The result is amazing. She was as dedicated to our bands as she is an impressive talent.
